The Tuvaluan dollar ( English Tuvaluan dollar ) is the currency of Tuvalu . From 1966 to 1976 the Australian dollar was the only currency in Tuvalu . In 1976 Tuvalu began minting its own coins . The denominations are 1 cent (¢), 2 ¢, 5 ¢, 10 ¢, 20 ¢, 50 ¢ and $ 1. Tuvalu does not issue its own banknotes; the Australian dollar bills are used, as the Australian dollar is also legal tender in Tuvalu.

The island nation's only issuing bank is the National Bank of Tuvalu .
