StarCraft characters
All the main characters in the StarCraft franchise are listed below. The figures are based on the real-time strategy games StarCraft , StarCraft: Brood War , StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, developed by Blizzard Entertainment . There are also novels , comics , art books and other works about the Starcraft series. Chris Metzen , Vice President of Creative Development at Blizzard Entertainment, is responsible for creating these characters. He also created the entire backstory of the StarCraft franchise.
Terran
The Terrans, or humans, are colonists of the earth ( Latin : Terra) in the Koprulu sector in the year 2499. These settlers are split up into numerous groups that fight each other. The Terrans are considered the most adaptable and nomadic of the three races. They are able to quickly and efficiently exploit the resources of a planet and then move on. In the course of the plot, they often find themselves between the fronts of the Protoss and Zerg conflict.
Arcturus Mengsk
Arcturus Mengsk is a Terran from the planet Korhal IV , who was devastated by the Confederation of Men after a declaration of independence and rebellion by nuclear bombardment . Mengsk henceforth led the sons of Korhal who brought about the fall of the Confederacy during the first zerg invasion. This was done with the help of psi emitters, which were specifically used against troops of the Confederation and lured zerg to them. Enormously high casualties among the civilian population as well as the capture of Sarah Kerrigans by the Zerg were accepted. This led to the enmity with Jim Raynor. As Emperor Mengsk leads since the fall of the Confederacy , the Terran League of.
Jim Raynor
James Eugene "Jim" Raynor is a main character in the series and embodies the common soldier in the midst of political motives of driven people. It is based on a character of the same name from the movie Rush . Raynor was further developed on the basis of this template by Chris Metzen and James Phinney, with Metzen contributing numerous designs for the appearance of the figure. In the real-time strategy games Starcraft , Brood War and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty , the role of Robert Clotworthy is spoken.
Raynor is initially an officer in the Confederation of People before joining the sons of Korhal , a resistance movement. Due to differences in the morale of the war, however, he breaks free from Arcturus Mengsk, the leader of this group, and steals his flagship Hyperion . Raynor founds his own rebel army and fights his former ally from now on. He also joins forces with the Protoss people to fend off an invasion of the enemy zerg. A series of conflicts ensued during the Brood Wars alongside the Protoss. A few years later, with the help of potent artifacts, Raynor succeeds in preventing a new conquest by the Zerg.
The novels Liberty's Crusade and Queen of Blades develop the character further, and shed light on the family background, among other things. In general, Raynor is seen by the trade press as a credible protagonist with whom the player can easily identify. In a survey for GameStop , the character was chosen among the ten most popular computer game heroes, for which his humanity and irrepressible will are cited as reasons.
Protoss
The Protoss are an ancient race of humanoid aliens split into two factions. On one side are the conservative Khalai Protoss , on the other the renegade Dark Templars . The Protoss are usually portrayed as physically and mentally superior to the other races. They also have well developed psionic abilities. This combination makes them the most technologically advanced breed in StarCraft. The Protoss were created by a species called Xel'Naga , who set out to create the perfect species. Her homeworld is Aiur, a jungle world that is covered with ancient temple complexes.
Tassadar
As a High Templar and executor of the Protoss expedition fleet, he had first contact with both the Zerg and the Terrans. Tassadar had been ordered by the Conclave to stop the zerg advancing by burning the infested Terran worlds. After Chau Sara was burned, he refused to do this. After a pact with the Dark Templars he was arrested by the judiciary and was supposed to answer in the process. With the help of Fenix, Jim Raynor and Zeratul, however, he managed to escape. Ultimately, Tassadar was instrumental in the invasion of the Overmind on Aiur and rushed into the Overmind with the flagship Gantrithor to destroy it.
Zeratul
Zeratul is a central character in StarCraft. Although he was initially banished by Aiur, he always feels obliged to save his people. Like many other characters in the series, it was created by Chris Metzen. Samwise Didier made concept drawings. Originally, Jack Ritschel was to be the voice of Zeratul in StarCraft . However, he died during the production of the game, after which Fred Tatasciore took over its task.
Zeratul is the mysterious praetor of the exiled Dark Templars . The preservation of his home planet is his top priority. When he is threatened by the zerg, he tries to overcome the division within the Protoss, which turns out to be impossible due to centuries of alienation. With the help of Tassadar and some Terrans he succeeds in destroying the Zerg Overmind . During the Brood Wars , he forms an unstable alliance with Zerg leader Sarah Kerrigan, whom he deeply distrusts. In fact, Zeratul is betrayed by her and flees into exile. There he is haunted by gloomy visions that point to another important conflict.
The novel Queen of Blades tells in depth of the time when Zeratul was allied with the Terrans. He is often portrayed as a tragic and sincere character.
Zerg
The zerg are a people of insectoid larvae parasites that “burrow” into other species in order to maintain their physical characteristics, and they are important antagonists of the protoss. All zerg individuals are usually controlled by a central overmind and act together like a single organism. The main goal of this swarm is to achieve genetic perfection by assimilating other "valuable" breeds and adding their genetic makeup to the Zerg gene pool . In contrast to Terrans and Protoss, they do not use any technology, but rely on controlled and modified evolution to create specialized warrior races. The zerg, like the Protoss, were created by the Xel'Naga after they were disappointed by the Protoss. Her homeworld is Zerus, an ash world near the center of the Milky Way .
Sarah Kerrigan
Sarah Louise Kerrigan, the self-proclaimed Queen of Blades , is another main character in the series and largely takes on the role of the antagonist. Her backstory was developed by Chris Metzen and James Phinney, with Metzen also responsible for the graphic representation of the character. Glynnis Talken Campbell voiced Kerrigan in StarCraft and Brood War . In the latest part of the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty series , Tricia Helfer takes over the role.
Originally, Kerrigan is a 26 year old female with psionic skills and extensive training as a spy and assassin. She is also the deputy of rebel leader Arcturus Mengsk, who betrays her. This leads to the fact that she is kidnapped by the zerg and transformed by them into a hybrid of human and zerg. Kerrigan becomes the main fighter of the zerg, but is initially still under the control of the Overmind. After his death, however, she is free and becomes the new leader of the zerg, with whose help she tries to gain control of the Koprulu sector.
Her life before the zerg infestation is depicted in the novels Uprising and Liberty's Crusade , while Queen of Blades describes the time after the infection. For a character in a computer game, Kerrigan has remarkable depth and credibility. She was named one of Tom's Games' most important female video game characters, and named the greatest villain in computer game history in a GameStop poll.
