The Roman Catholic branch church Oberhausen is located in the Oberhausen district in the municipality of Groß-Enzersdorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. John the Baptist and belongs to the Probstdorf parish in the Marchfeld deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands on an earth substructure that comes from a medieval house mountain. Later this was probably an outbuilding of the large local mountain on which Sachsengang Castle stands.

history

In 1544 a branch of the parish Groß-Enzersdorf is mentioned for the first time. The current church was built between 1650 and 1653 and restored in 1964.

architecture

Church exterior

The church is a simple baroque building with a smooth facade. The nave is low and has small arched windows. The octagonal east tower with small acoustic windows is located above the choir . Above it is a pyramid helmet .

Church interior

The single nave nave is barrel vaulted . The square choir is a little narrower. Above there is groin vault . To the south, the groin-vaulted sacristy connects to the choir.

Furnishing

The baroque interior is uniform and dates from the end of the 17th century. St. John the Baptist is depicted on the altarpiece of the high altar. It dates from the beginning of the 18th century. On the left side altar there is a picture of Mariahilf from the first half of the 18th century. The altarpiece on the right side altar shows St. John Nepomuk , also from the first half of the 18th century.

The organ was made in 1913 by organ builder Johann M. Kauffmann .
