Church of St. Leonhard von Eugendorf

The St. Leonhard branch church in Mühlberg is located in the Mühlberg district of the Eugendorf municipality in the province of Salzburg . The Mühlberg castle stable was located near the church . The church is politically assigned to Eugendorf, ecclesiastically it belongs to Seekirchen am Wallersee .

history

Originally, the church was probably an aristocratic own church of the Mühlberg residence . The first church consecration is recorded in 1392. In 1360 the parish seat was moved from Seekirchen to Mühlberg because the Seekirchen collegiate church had been set on fire several times. The name "Pfaffenbühel" (also called Pfaffenbichi or Pfaffenbichl ) for a hill between the Mühlberg and Seekirchen comes from this time . This is due to the fact that the bell in the church of St. Leonhard rang when the pastor came within sight of the church on his way from Seekirchen.

In 1679 the parish seat moved back to Seekirchen. After the founding of the Eugendorf Vicariate , St. Leonhard initially came to the Eugendorf parish, but in 1892 it was returned to Seekirchen for financial reasons. With the deed of gift dated November 14, 1902, this was also confirmed as a fundamental right.

The church was rebuilt in the late Gothic style by 1522 , the ribbed vault and the gallery from this period are still there. Numerous pilgrimages to St. Leonhard took place up until the 18th century. Until 1913, the people of Eugendorf went to Mühlberg on the second day of Prang . Today the regular church services are stopped. On supplication Saturday there is a supplication by the stable maids (today the peasant women and farm workers). A special feature in church life is the Leonhardiritt , which takes place every two years, with the associated horse blessings (usually at the end of October). The little church is also used for May services, baptisms, weddings and church concerts.
