The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Margaretha is lonely in the Remscheniggraben in the municipality of Eisenkappel-Vellach .

Building description

The small, essentially Romanesque building is supported by buttresses at the choir and dominated by the mighty, Romanesque tower on the north side of the choir. It has two-part, arched sound windows and is crowned by a gable-pointed helmet. The bell was cast by Mathias Gollner in 1819. The nave was probably increased in the 17th century. In the western porch there is a bricked outer pulpit . The Christophorus fresco on the south wall was painted by Medard Skuk in 1910. Inside, a round-arched triumphal arch with a cornice connects the cross-vaulted, two-bay nave with the single-bay Gothic choir with a 3/8 end and rib vault . The choir is wider than the nave. The sacristy in the tower has a cross vault. On the north wall of the nave there is a fresco from the 14th century, which probably depicts St. Margharetha. The fragment of a crucifixion in the choir dates from the second half of the 15th century and was uncovered in 1978/79.

Furnishing

The high altar from the 4th quarter of the 17th century bears the carved figure of St. Magaretha , which is flanked by two statues of saints. The tabernacle was built in 1835. The two side altars consist of columned retables with fleshy acanthus and were made in 1698. On the middle picture of the left side altar from the 19th century a saint is depicted. The middle picture of the right side altar comes from the same time and shows St. Ulrich . In the cafeteria there is a crucifix from the second half of the 16th century.
