The Ensemble Fimmadur - in its own spelling fimmadur - was a mixed vocal ensemble from Leipzig , which after ten years of existence gave its last concert on October 3rd, 2019 in the Friedenskirche (Paxkirche) in Leipzig-Gohlis.

Career

The ensemble has existed since October 2009 and most recently included four former Thomaner and a mezzo-soprano.

Fimmadur performed on many different occasions in Germany - often in churches, such as the Panitzsch Church - and also gave concerts in Austria and England.

According to the ensemble, the name comes from Icelandic , which according to their own statements means "five people" or "five men".

In the summer of 2019, the group announced the end of Fimmadur on October 3, 2019 on their website ( “When it's at its best, you should stop” ), which ended with a concert in the Friedenskirche Leipzig-Gohlis .

repertoire

The repertoire included chants from the Middle Ages , compositions from the Renaissance of the 15th century, folk songs and a cappella arrangements of modern music and well-known songs from rock, pop, soul and jazz.

Artists who valued the fimmadur members and were regarded as musical role models for them were Wise Guys and the ensembles Amarcord , Thios Omilos and Nobiles .

Varia

  • On October 3rd, fimmadur gave its last acclaimed concert with the title Main thing, we have fun . The former singers from fimmadur were also there , so that two singers and nine singers were on stage for some of the songs. The concert was recorded with professional video technology, so it would be possible to publish a live DVD.
  • At the final concert , Johannes Gründel announced that with the Ensemble Collegium Thomanum, a group of former Thomaners and Thomas students had come together who would like to perform with their own concerts in the future.
