Nobiles is an a cappella group from Leipzig . The name nobiles referred to politically active descendants of consuls in the Roman Empire.
history
The men's ensemble Nobiles was founded in January 2006 from members of the St. Thomas Choir in Leipzig . There the singers got to know each other and received a musically in-depth nine-year training.
Today the formation consists of the tenors Christian Pohlers and Paul Heller, the baritone Benjamin Mahns-Mardy and the basses Lucas Heller and Lukas Lomtscher. The repertoire ranges from the late medieval mass to the modern . Focuses both secular Männerchöre of romance , especially works by Franz Schubert , Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn , as well as an extensive church music Werkgut .
Nobiles collaborates intensively with contemporary artists such as the composer Manfred Schlenker , who dedicated his song motet Gott webt in einer Lichte to the ensemble , Volker Bräutigam , who arranged several works for a joint concert for the 35th Leipzig Jazz Festival, and the vocal quartet New York Polyphony or Daniel Hope . The vocal ensemble also embeds works by the Thomas cantor Georg Christoph Biller in the concert programs . They have also been working with the multiple award-winning vocal ensemble Sjaella for several years .
Under the direction of Biller, Ensemble Nobiles could be heard together with the soloists Gesine Adler and Reglint Bühler and the Ensembles De Morales, Thios Omilos, Noema and the Leipzig Barockorchester in July 2011 and 2013 in several live concert broadcasts on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk .
In May 2012 the CD Eine Deutsche Messe was released on the Leipzig label Genuin classics . The recording is based on Franz Schubert's Deutsche Messe and musically reproduces a church service .
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Hugo Distler's death , the two Leipzig vocal ensembles Sjaella and Ensemble Nobiles recorded a CD with major works from the composer's choral oeuvre (published by Rondeau Production ).
In addition to their concert activities in Germany , the ensemble has also made guest appearances in Australia , New Zealand , Singapore , USA, Spain, Switzerland , France , Norway and the Netherlands .
