history
On March 5, 1949, the Finsterbergschanze was built on the Finsterberg for ski jumping, which Philipp Dees had built from wood in autumn 1948. Due to increased requirements, this hill was supplemented in 1950 by a hill with a higher wooden tower and a youth hill. The hill was the venue for several club championships and local competitions.
In the 1960s, operations at the ski jump decreased due to decreasing interest in ski jumping. After the ski jump collapsed in a storm on March 16, 1968, it had to be torn down. Today a display reminds of the existence of the Finsterbergschanze.
After several locations such as the Sinnberg had been considered as a location for the Bad Kissingen terrace swimming pool, which was built in 1954, it was finally built on a property on the Finsterberg owned by the city of Bad Kissingen. Criteria such as the extremely favorable solar radiation, the view and the security against flooding were decisive.
