Fint

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fint or Finnt is composed of several villages Oasental south of the city Ouarzazate in the region Drâa Tafilalet in southern Morocco .

Location and climate

The Fint oasis is located on the mostly dry Assif n'Tidili about 19 km (driving distance) south of Ouarzazate at an altitude of about 1100  m ; the western boundary is formed by non Glaoui - Kasbah towered place Tifoultoute . The climate is temperate to warm, but it can be very cool at night; the sparse rain (approx. 150 mm / year) falls almost exclusively in the winter half-year.

Residents

The total of around 1000 inhabitants of the various villages in the valley (including Wangarf, Taherbilte, Timoula and Belghizi ) are almost exclusively of Berber descent, although diverse dark-skinned influences can also be identified; the regional Berber dialect is spoken .

economy

The people of the valley operate an oasis economy based on the date palm ; Beans, carrots, etc. are also grown on small plots in spring. Cattle breeding ( sheep , goats , chickens) is only practiced on a small scale.

history

In the absence of written records, next to nothing is known about the history of the place, but Neolithic hunters are likely to have roamed the area. Because of the poor connection to the main traffic routes in the south, life in the oasis has remained quite simple; Only at the end of the 20th century did rudimentary tourism develop.

Attractions

The main attraction is the oasis itself, ie nature; the fields and the rammed earth buildings of the people. Various walks (also accompanied by donkeys ) are possible.
