The Assif n'Tidili ( Central Atlas Tamazight ⴰⵙⵉⴼ ⵏ ⵜⵉⴷⵉⵍⵉ Asif n Tidili ) is a river in southern Morocco that only carries water in the winter and spring months . Its lower course is also known under the name Idermi or Oued Ouarzazate . Along with the Dades, it is the most important source of the Oued Draa , the longest river in Morocco.

course

The valley of the Assif n'Tidili has its origin on the south side of the Moroccan main watershed in the High Atlas in a high valley on the western flank of the 3912 m high Jbel Taska n'Zat at an altitude of around 3500 m and leads in a general east-south-east direction down to the confluence with the reservoir El Mansour Eddahbi east of Ouarzazate , which since 1972 replaced the merging of the river with the Dades to form Wadi Draa. From the place Idermi, which lies at the confluence with the Assif Iriri , the middle course of the Assif n'Tidili begins, from which various other names are documented for about 56.6 km to the confluence with the reservoir. In addition to Idermi and Oued Ouarzazate , Assif Iriri and Assif n 'Imini are also possible . In comparison with the last two mentioned, which also represent source rivers in this river system, the Assif n'Tidili is after the Assif Iriri with 10 km distance the one with the second longest flow distance to the mouth.

Tributaries

The Assif n'Tidili collects a number of well-known tributaries in a fan shape from southwest to northwest. Starting in the southwest, the Assif n 'Aït Douchchene should be mentioned first, which comes from the area of the Zenaga , formerly flowed into the lower reaches and has been pouring directly into the reservoir since 1972. The next following clockwise and at the same time the most important and longest tributary is the Assif Iriri at valley kilometer 56.2 from the southwest , about 38 km west of Ouarzazate. Then, coming from the north-west, the upper reaches of the Assif n'Tidili fits into the fan. At valley kilometer 76.6, the Assif n'Imini ( coming from Tizi n'Tichka ) follows , coming from the passes on the main ridge of the High Atlas in the north , and at valley kilometer 84.1 the Assif Mellah (from Tizi n'Telouet coming), united with the Assif Ounila (coming from the mountain lake Tamda Anghomer).

traffic

In the desert mountain world of the southern roofing of the Atlas Mountains, the Assif n'Tidili offers space for a number of river oases, but is too impassable for continuous road traffic. The national roads N9 and N10 accompany the river some distance north of it.
