geography
location
The province of Ouarzazate borders in the west on the province of Taroudannt , in the northwest on the province Al Haouz , in the northeast on the province Azilal , in the east on the province Tinghir , in the southeast on the province Zagora and in the south on the province Tata .
landscape
The landscapes of the province range from the snow-covered mountain slopes in the south of the High Atlas to the western Dadès valley with the El Mansour Eddahbi reservoir to the bare and nameless heights of the Anti Atlas and the eastern part of the Jbel Sirwa massif.
climate
In the winter nights, degrees of frost can be reached, but during the day the thermometer climbs to values between 10 and 20 ° C. In summer it is unbearably hot in the lowlands with daytime temperatures of over 40 ° C; In contrast, it is much cooler at night.
Attractions
The main attraction of the province is the Berber town of Aït-Ben-Haddou , whose residential castles ( tighremts ) have served as a backdrop in many films. To the north of it are the Ounila valley and the town of Telouet with the partly palatial Kasbah Thami El Glaouis . Directly on the main road from Marrakech to Ouarzazate is the place Ighrem n'Ougdal with its imposing warehouse castle ( agadir ). In Ouarzazate itself, the Kasbah Taourirt is of tourist interest. The oasis of Skoura with its date palm groves and its crumbling mud buildings is also part of the tour program.
Municipalities
The municipalities in the province as self-governing bodies of the local community are shown in the table below with the number of inhabitants. Only the first two municipalities are classified as urban settlements (M = commune municipal ); the rest are considered rural communities ( communes rurales ) and consist of a large number of villages.
