Berkane Province
Berkane ( Arabic إقليم بركان, Central Atlas Tamazight ⵜⴰⵙⴳⴰ ⵏ ⴱⵔⴽⴰⵏ Tasga n Brkan ) is a province in Morocco . It belongs to the Oriental region and is located in the northeast of the country on the border with the Algerian province of Tlemcen . In the north it borders on the Mediterranean Sea , in the northwest on the province of Nador , in the south on the prefecture of Oujda-Angad . At the 2014 census, the province had 289,137 inhabitants and an area of 1804 km².
population
The mostly Berber population speaks mostly Moroccan Arabic . In Berkane and Saidia, French and English are usually also understood.
economy
Agriculture determines life in the villages of the hinterland; Retail trade and handicrafts dominate in the cities. Bathing and beach tourism is developing on the coast near Saidia.

The province comprises 6 cities (M) and 10 rural communities ( communes rurales ) with a total of around 290,000 inhabitants.
