Agadir-Ida ou Tanane ( Arabic عمالة أكادير إدا وتنان) is a provincial prefecture of Morocco created in 1994 . It has belonged to the Souss-Massa region since 2015 (previously to Souss-Massa-Draâ ) and is located in the southwest of the country at altitudes between 0 and approx. 1200 m. The prefecture includes the city of Agadir and part of its surroundings and has a good 600,000 inhabitants (2014) with an area of ​​approx. 2400 km².

The prefecture lies in the transition area between the western foothills of the High Atlas and the coasts of the Atlantic Ocean .

population

Much of the rapid population growth in recent decades is due to the immigration of Berbers from the mountainous regions of the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas who hope to find work in or near the tourist center of Agadir.

tourism

The former fishing towns of Agadir and Taghazout have developed into tourist centers, with bathing tourism dominating in Agadir and surfing tourism in Taghazout. Imouzzer is a popular mountain resort for day trippers.
