Laâyoune (Province)

Laayoune Province in the former Laayoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region

Laayoune ( Arabic إقليم العيون, Tamazight : ⵜⴰⵙⴳⴰ ⵏ ⵍⵄⵢⵓⵏ) is a province of the Western Sahara, which is occupied and administered by Morocco . It has belonged to the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region since the administrative reform of 2015 and comprises the northwestern part of Western Sahara and southern regions of Morocco. In the north it borders on Morocco. The province has 210,023 inhabitants (2004).

The Bou Craa rich phosphate deposit is located in the province .
