Saidia (also Saïdia , Arabic السعيدية, DMG as-Saʿīdīya ; Central Atlas Tamazight ⴰⵊⵔⵓⴷ Ajrud ) is a small town with about 11,000 inhabitants in the province of Berkane in the Oriental region in northeastern Morocco . Saidia is - after Agadir and Essaouira - the most important seaside resort in the country.
location
Saidia is located on the Mediterranean coast directly on the Moroccan-Algerian border, approx. 65 km (driving distance) northwest of Oujda and approx. 30 km north of the provincial capital Berkane . The climate has little rain and the temperatures are influenced by the Mediterranean.

economy
The inhabitants of the place lived until the first half of the 20th century as self-sufficient from fishing and a little agriculture. Since the 1980s, beach and bathing tourism has played the most important role in the town's income. In 2007 a marina was inaugurated.
history
The region around Ras el Ma and Saidia belonged to the emirate of Noukour from the 8th to the early 11th century . Among the Almoravids , Almohads , Merinids , Saadians and Alawids , she shared the country's changeful political fate. At the end of the 19th century, the influence of the European colonial powers became more and more noticeable, which ultimately led to the French and Spanish protectorates (1912–1956).
