Mathias Tullner

Mathias Tullner (born May 27, 1944 in Wikatsch , Hungary ) is a German historian . He is considered the most important representative of Saxony-Anhalt's regional history research after the Second World War.

Life

Tullner comes from a family of winemakers who were expelled from Hungary in 1948 . Together with his mother and grandparents - the father had died in a Soviet prison camp - he came to Holdenstedt in Saxony-Anhalt when he was four . From 1950 to 1956 Tullner went to school there before he attended the extended high school in Roßleben . Between 1963 and 1967 Tullner studied history , German and pedagogy at the University of Education in Magdeburg . After completing his studies, he worked on a for a year as a teacher Polytechnic High School and then began working as a research assistant in the field of history of the modern era at the PH Magdeburg, where he in 1973 received his doctorate and in 1983 habilitation . As a result, Tullner was appointed university lecturer for regional history in 1986 . From 1987 to 1990 he was visiting professor for modern history at the Pedagogical University of Maputo in Mozambique . Subsequently, Tullner taught as a university lecturer for regional history, initially at the Technical University of Magdeburg and, after the merger of the three Magdeburg universities in 1993, continued at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg . There he was awarded the title of Privatdozent by the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education in 1996 . Since 1999 Tullner has been an adjunct professor for modern history with a focus on the regional history of Saxony-Anhalt at the OvGU Magdeburg. Mathias Tullner is chairman of the Otto von Guericke Society. In 2009 he retired.

Various guest professorships and research stays brought Mathias Tullner to Mozambique again and again.

He wrote a regional history of Saxony-Anhalt .

Awards

On September 11, 2010, Mathias Tullner was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Saxony-Anhalt for his extraordinary services to research and communication of the history of Saxony-Anhalt .
