Fish Rice is the term for an artificial spawning - and Hege -Platz for young fish breeding as a protection against predators .

The fish rice is a traditional protective measure for fry, mainly used on the Untersee of Lake Constance . A map from 1900 already shows the locations around the Untersee. There are currently well over a hundred travelers in the lake who normally do not pose a threat to water sports , as they are located below the Wysse in the dump area of the lake, i.e. at least 10 meters below the surface of the water. Only in the area of ​​the Konstanz level are the journey only one to two meters below the water level .

Construction

The classic shape of a fish rice is a box , but round shapes are also used today. The box has a diameter of around 15 meters and is attached to stakes driven into the seabed at a distance of around one to one and a half meters.

This box is then filled with larger sections of fruit trees, under which the spawn and young fish are relatively well protected from natural enemies.

The fish rice is limited by four weir posts. Only the owner of the rice is allowed to fish within these defensive piles, and often good results can be achieved with predatory fish.

Today the journey is also characterized by floating plastic canisters anchored to the rice.
