Fishing: Barents Sea is a simulation game about deep sea fishing . It takes place in the eponymous marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean , on the Barents Sea north of Norway .

Gameplay

The game is an economic simulation in the field of deep sea fishing, where the player has to work his way up by fishing at sea and then selling the fish. With the money earned, the player can then improve his fishing business and buy better bait. In addition, the player has to deal with the prices and types of fish that he finds in the angler's lexicon. Promising places are shown on a map. The ship can be controlled by the player and the fish can be caught with quick response times and accuracy. The player also has to do the preliminary work, which also determines the quality of the goods. The player can improve his boat in ports and new employees with different strengths can be recruited in the job exchange.

At the beginning the player can choose a male or female character and learns the basics of the game through a tutorial .

Development and publication

The title is based on a 2D prototype that has been converted into a 3D look by the Norwegian development team Misc Games since 2015 with the Unreal Engine 4 and was officially announced for the first time at Gamescom 2017. The idea for the game came to CEO Gøran Myrland from his fishing experience in Norway and real places and companies were recreated in the game. The game was officially released on February 7, 2018.

reception

It was criticized that the journeys in real time are very long and largely monotonous and that the leveling up also takes a long time. Therefore, as a player, you should be patient and enjoy quiet games. On the other hand, the beginner-friendliness, the controls, the weather effects, water reflections, the realism as well as the many detailed ship models and the open-world design are praised. The game received largely positive reviews on Steam .
