Fitzmaurice Basin

The Fitzmaurice Basin (English: Fitzmaurice Basin ) is a sedimentary basin in the Northern Territory of Australia .

In the sedimentary basin there are about 3.5 km thick rock layers, which were formed from the Mesoproterozoic to the Paleoproterozoic 1800 to 1500 million years ago. The rock units in the basin are volcanic and sedimentary , consist of sandstone , claystone , siltstone and conglomerate and, to a lesser extent, dolomite rock , and to a lesser extent volcanic rocks . The sedimentary basin partially overlays the Pine Creek Orogen and Halls Creek Orogen and it is partially overlapped by the Bonaparte Basin .

The Fitzmaurice Basin is being searched for copper , metals and uranium .
