The winged ore hover fly ( Cheilosia pictipennis ) is a fly from the family of hover flies (Syrphidae).

features

The flies reach a length of 10 to 13 millimeters. Their forehead is hairy pale yellow and the males are covered with gray, with a longitudinal furrow, the females have three furrows. The antennae are dark brown, the third link is rust-red and shines whitish. The brown-colored antenna bristle is hairless. The face is glossy black, below the antennae it is slightly curved inwards, under the eyes it slopes down straight. It has a small, pointed bump on its face. The mesonotum and scutellum are darkly colored and densely pale red-yellow, with pale yellow hairs in the females. The abdomen is shiny black-green, with the first two limbs in the males shaggy pale yellow, otherwise hairy black. The abdomen of the females is hairy red and yellow. The wings have a brownish-yellow edge mark on the front edge and similarly colored veins . There are three brown spots in the middle. The legs are black and have a yellow tip, the rails are yellowish in color and in the males are brown in the middle. The tarsi are brown in color and have red hairs adjacent to them.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals come from Central Europe to Siberia , live mainly in coniferous forests in higher or colder locations and are only found locally in the lowlands. They fly from May to July and can be found on flowers in swampy meadows.
