The Flakensee is east of Berlin situated inland waters in the Oder-Spree district , Brandenburg . It is part of the Federal Waterway Rüdersdorfer Gewässer (RüG) with waterway class III, which is used primarily to transport cement from the Rüdersdorf cement works to Berlin and Poland. The Berlin Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible for the federal waterway .
The Flakensee has its inflow from the north from the Kalksee via the Kalkfließ and in the southeast via the Löcknitz , another federal inland waterway. It has its drainage to the southwest via the Flakenfließ through Erkner to Dämeritzsee . At the southern end of the limestone river is the Woltersdorf lock with a fall height of 2.10 meters. In the north of the Flakensee lies the community of Woltersdorf , in the south the city of Erkner.
In addition to shipping, the 67 hectare large and maximum 8 meters deep body of water is mainly used for water sports and as a bathing lake.
