The Kalksee is a body of water in the south of Rüdersdorf in the Märkisch-Oderland district, east of Berlin . The name is derived from the proximity of the Rüdersdorf limestone deposit, which is unique in the state of Brandenburg . It is part of the Federal Waterway Rüdersdorfer Gewässer (RüG) with waterway class III, and the Berlin Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible . The Kalksee is used for swimming, water sports and as a transport route. The lake borders on Woltersdorf to the south and west , and Rüdersdorf to the north and east.
Rüdersdorfer Kalksee outdoor pool
At the beginning of the 20th century, when townspeople in particular discovered bathing and swimming in open waters, a large open-air swimming pool was established on the east bank of the Kalksee . This consisted of a non-swimmer pool and a swimmer area marked out by buoys, which, however, was "to be used at your own risk". The visitors liked to use two large diving towers on the dividers. The bathing establishment was later removed. After numerous redesigns, a lido still exists.
Boats on the Kalksee
In parallel to the intensive bathing activity, the outdoor pool owners rented a rowboat . That has also been preserved to this day. At the end of the 20th century, boating was intensified, a rowing club ( Rüdersdorfer Ruderverein Kalkberge e.V. - RRVK) was founded and regularly organizes races, including the Rüdersdorfer spring regatta, and German rowing championships have also taken place in recent years, u. a. the rowing league , the national competition for children and young people and a touring rowing meeting .
There is also the Motorsportclub Kalksee e. V. , who organizes dragon boat races , among other things . A marina for sailing boats completes the composition.
Above all, this waterway has been used to transport cement from the Rüdersdorf cement works to Berlin or via the Spree-Oder waterway and the Havel-Oder waterway to Poland for decades .
Water ecology, other uses and peripheral development
Despite its name, Kalksee is a clean bathing lake and has been awarded the blue EU flag for clear waters since around 2002 .
The ten meter deep Kalksee also serves as a diving area , for which a diving base was opened in 2003. The water is also used by recreational and professional fishermen, and the presence of pike has been reported.
Only the north, west and south bank areas have paths and residential buildings. Haus am Kalksee , a diaconal care facility, opened on the north bank (address Seestrasse) around 2005 .
For a long time there was no development directly on the eastern bank of the Kalksee. In 1967, the Evangelical Free Church Hospital was built right next to the outdoor pool, which began operations in October under the direction of Medical Councilor Heinz Wack. The hospital management had the film production buildings that used to be there almost completely demolished and removed.
After the change in July 1991, the Immanuel Diakonie took over the hospital.
In June 1995, the Klinik am See rehabilitation facility was built right next to the hospital .
Connection with other waters in the area
Through the Woltersdorf lock at the southern end of the Kalkfließ, the Kalksee is connected to the south with the adjacent Flakensee . To the north, a connection leads through the Stolpgraben and the Hohlen See into the Strausberger Mühlenfließ , which leads to the Langerhans Canal and the Stienitzsee .
