Flensborghus on Norderstrasse

The Flensborghus at Norderstraße 76 in Flensburg is a former orphanage , completed in 1725 , which the Danish minority used as a culture and meeting house after the referendum in Schleswig in 1920 . It is the seat of the South Schleswig Association (SSF) and the Danish Youth Organizations in South Schleswig (SdU), the regional association of the South Schleswig Association of Voters (SSW) and the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN).

history

The master bricklayer Johann Christian Haedel built the building in 1724/25 based on the model of the Franckesche Stiftungen orphanage in Halle an der Saale . Most of the building material comes from the Duburg stones , which the Danish King Frederick IV had demolished at that time. The function as a municipal orphanage - at the start of construction the first outside of Copenhagen - the building kept parts of it until 1813. The orphanage, in which no more than 50 children lived, was considered disproportionate at the time. In later years the house served as a workhouse and penitentiary, as a barracks (1760–1894) and as a hotel and restaurant; at last it was named Hotel Nordischer Hof . In 1921 the Danish cultural association Grænseforeningen bought the house and set up a cultural center there.

Special features in construction

The coat of arms with the coat of arms of Flensburg and the words "God alone the honor" on the building, which was used with the construction of the building, is worth seeing . Next to this is a second plaque with the monogram of Frederik IV. In the gate passage in the middle of the building, Danish bar inscriptions were added in the 20th century after the takeover by the Danish minority . The interior was decorated with old paintings (painting collection).
