Flip Da Scrip is the Dutch hip-hop and R&B project by DJ Cooly D and rapper Glaze (Stef Bruinsma, * in the Bronx , New York ). In the second half of the 1990s, the band had a number of single hits, including Throw Ya Hands in the Air '95 .
biography
In 1990 DJ Cooly D and Glaze founded the Flip Da Scrip project. Three years later, the first album Products of da Piemel was released , on which u. a. the original version of Throw Ya Hands in the Air , whose 1995 remix would later be the breakthrough. After initial successes at home, e.g. B. with the title Who's in da House , they appeared as opening act at the concerts of R. Kelly in the Netherlands.
The hometown of the two musicians is Enschede . Their favorable geographical location to Germany made it possible to expand the market into the neighboring country. A contract was signed with the German label Dos Or Die / Nightown Records. Appearances at the Dome Festival in Cologne , where they were on stage alongside the Backstreet Boys , * NSYNC and DJ Quicksilver , made Flip Da Scrip even more popular.
After Glaze began a solo career in 1997, rapper Bear and singers Winston and Crucial joined the band for him. With the new line-up, the single I Never Told You was born , which was successful across Europe . Until 2001, the musicians mainly produced hip-hop tracks such as Have You Ever and After All .
Cooly D became a father in 2001 and Winston also wanted a break. When Bear was sentenced to two years in prison, an indefinite break was inevitable. The album that was started could not be completed.
The original line-up from Cooly D & Glaze has been working on a new album since 2010, for which old, but unreleased material is being remastered .
Flip Da Scrip has had a new formation since 2017. Toni Vaganza joins the group with the founder Cooly D and together they start the new Flip Da Scrip Live Act. Cooly D produced the new single The Weekend in the same style as the old hip hop of the 90s. In 2018 the single WTH you want from me? (ft SoniQ and King MC).
