Flipper & Lopaka is an animated series created by the Australian production company Yoram-Gross-Filmstudios and aired several times, mainly by the Australian Seven Network .

action

The series takes place on the "Millhouse Islands" of "Illoka", where the islanders survive without the use of modern technology. Their huts are made of bamboo and fern-like plants; their diet consists of various fruits that they find on the island. Under the ocean that surrounds the island is “Quetso”, the sunken “Millhouse Island” and now the home of many marine life. At the beginning of the series, "Quetso" is mastered by Flipper's parents.

During the third season, Flipper and Lopaka learn that “Quetso” long ago, when King “Dextorian” brought Neptune's statue and his trident to the surface of the water, the island sank for this reason: Exactly at the moment when the relics arrived had reached the surface, a lake volcano had erupted, so that "Quetso" sank again and the island "Illoka" was formed. Since both objects are still in "Quetso", Flipper and Lopaka must at least sink the statue into a sea ditch to prevent such a tectonic shift from occurring again .

characters

In all seasons

Lopaka
Lopaka, a twelve-year-old boy who can breathe underwater and chat with marine life, such as his dolphin friend Flipper. He is always dressed in a red loincloth ("island costume") and, like all male residents of "Iloka", wears a bracelet on his wrist. Lopaka is a very loyal friend, both to sea and island people.
The two have been best friends since Flipper saved him from drowning.
The islanders often wonder where Lopaka disappears to when he is in "Quetso". In the episode Secrets and Lies , however, Lopaka has to reveal his secret in order to help the injured Flipper.
Pinball machine
Flipper is a witty, lively, loyal and friendly dolphin . His parents rule the city of "Quetso". Whenever difficulties arise in the underwater city, usually caused by Dexter, the residents of “Quetso” always turn to Flipper for help. The dolphin has a white belly and a light blue back. He is the biggest target for Dexter.
Dexter
Dexter is the gigantic purple octopus who speculates on the rule in "Quetso". He's fraudulent, he likes to manipulate and is a total coward. Flipper and Lopaka saved him from certain death several times. Nevertheless, he always hatches a new plan against pinball. Dexter lives in a grotto on the edge of "Quetso", under "Illoka". Although he always praises himself for his brilliant ideas, Dexter isn't exactly the brightest. However, he shouldn't be underestimated: if he really wants to, he can be very sneaky. Unlike a normal octopus, Dexter only has six tentacles .
serge
Serge is the brain behind most of Dexter's plans. He is a bright green snake with a devious and sharp mind. Although he is truly the “brain” of Dexter's group, he is never praised by them. But if something should go wrong, he will be blamed for it.

season 2

Professor Troy, Spike and Goose
Professor Troy is a talented scientist who wants to research the story of "Quetso" and "Illoka" and the reason why the city has sunk and is trying to bring it back to the surface. In terms of character, she is a kind hearted person.

Her son Spike is friends with Lopaka and is very astonished that Lopaka can be under water for so long and how the islanders manage without 20th century technology. He tries to show them the benefits of "advancement" while playing with them.

Goose, Troy's unusual assistant, is a young, taciturn man. Whenever he speaks, he does so in a slow and deep voice. He always wears a life jacket and jeans.

season 3

Captain Barnibus Krabbe, Kim, Simon,
Captain Krabbe is a small, modern pirate who came to "Iloka" to look for Neptune's statue and his trident. His 18-year-old niece Kim came with him to help him with this venture and gain experience in piracy . Kim is an avid pirate and also the ship's technical genius. Simon, the head chef, on the other hand, is a tall sailor who seems to be attracted to accidents. But even though he's a pirate, he's very kind and empathetic.

Ultra
Ultra is a pink dolphin who was separated from her parents as a child. She grew up in a science laboratory and was brought by the pirates to search the ocean floor. After a few incidents, she reveals herself to be an honest comrade, so that Flipper gladly welcomes her into his group. Later in the "Ultra Comes Home" series, she finds her parents with her little sister Delta.
