Florian Braun (born June 2, 1989 in Aachen ) is a German politician and member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Since the state election in North Rhine-Westphalia in May 2017 Florian Braun elected member of the state parliament .

Life

From the age of two, Florian Braun grew up in the Cologne district of Porz . After obtaining the general higher education entrance qualification at the Lessing-Gymnasium in Porz-Zündorf , he completed a one-year military service as a corporal in the German Armed Forces in 2008 . Florian Braun then studied at the University of Cologne and graduated in business administration with a Bachelor of Science degree in September 2013. In the same year Florian Braun started his professional career as a consultant for regulation & public affairs at the Federal Association of Fiber Optic Connection eV ( Buglas ). In 2015 he finally took over the management of the Public Affairs department, which he held until he took over his state parliament mandate. Florian Braun has a younger sister and is married to a Cologne lawyer.

Partisan engagement

Florian Braun began his voluntary political work at a young age. He has been a member of the Junge Union since 2004 and of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since 2005.

From 2009 to 2012 he headed the Junge Union Köln as district chairman. Then he was deputy state chairman of the Junge Union Nordrhein-Westfalen and district chairman of the Junge Union Mittelrhein. Florian Braun has been the state chairman of the Junge Union Nordrhein-Westfalen since 2014. With over 30,000 members, it is the largest political youth organization in the country.

Florian Braun has been deputy chairman of the Porz-Mitte / Eil / Finkenberg branch of the CDU since 2011 and deputy district chairman of the CDU Cologne since 2012. He is also an assessor on the board of the CDU Mittelrhein and member of the state board of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia.

MP

On May 14, 2017, Florian Braun won the state election in North Rhine-Westphalia as a member of the state parliament. He won the direct mandate of the Cologne V constituency, consisting of the entire Porz district and the eastern districts of the Kalk district (Merheim, Brück, Rath / Heumar). With 36.13 percent of all votes, Florian Braun prevailed against his opponent and the previous constituency member Jochen Ott (chairman SPD Cologne and deputy chairman SPD NRW). With this result, he achieved a 7.73 percent increase in the first votes in his constituency compared to the NRW state elections in 2012 and, due to the initial situation, a media success.

With his entry into the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, Florian Braun was elected chairman of the young group of the CDU NRW parliamentary group, which with the 17th electoral term represents a quarter of the parliamentary group and is therefore bigger than ever before.

He is also spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the committee for digitization and innovation and a full member of the committee for school and education as well as the science committee.

Volunteering

Florian Braun is involved in various offices on a voluntary basis: During his school days from 2002 to 2008 he was an altar boy in the parish of St. Josef in Cologne-Porz. From 2006 to 2007 he was also the student representative at Lessing-Gymnasium. Florian Braun has been a qualified citizen of the City of Cologne since 2014, currently in the sub-committee for digital communication and organization. Since 2015 he has also been an honorary member of the supervisory board of the Catholic Youth Agency Cologne gGmbH.

In addition to his political commitment and his honorary posts, Florian Braun is a member of the following organizations and associations: cnetz (Association for Network Policy), Katholische Jugendwerke e. V., Sankt Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft Eil from 1908 e. V., Sankt Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft Rath / Heumar from 1926 e. V., Ortsring Eil (Association for Home Care), and Groovpaten e. V.
