Florian Fritsch (born October 29, 1985 in Munich ) is a German professional golfer who won his tour card for the 2011 European Tour in 2010 with his 6th place in the crucial phase of the European Tour Q-School .

Career

Florian Fritsch started playing golf at the Pfaffing Golf Club in Munich at the age of 10. When he was 12 he decided to become a professional golfer. With the support of his parents, he was able to attend the Leadbetter School in Bradenton , Florida, USA for three years . After his return, he moved to the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in 2002 . Between 2001 and 2008 he played in the national golf team. After success in the amateur field, he won gold five times with the German team and was four times German ranking champion, he switched to the professional camp in 2008. With his 15th place in the Second Qualifying Stage of the European Tour Q-School at Sherry Golf Jerez in Jerez , Spain , he secured his eligibility for the Challenge Tour 2009. There he was 2nd in 2009 with two 2nd places and 31st place of the best German players. He achieved his first victory as a professional in May 2009 on the EPD Tour by winning the Gut Winterbrock Classic. At the beginning of 2010 he announced that he would retire from professional sports. The reasons he gave was that he was not mentally mature enough for professional sport and could not withstand the strong pressure. He also developed a fear of flying. Nevertheless he played some tournaments of the Challenge Tour and achieved a top 10 result. His victory in the Heidelberg Lobenfeld Classic 2010 deserves special mention. With the 15th place in the decisive phase of the European Tour Q-School, he earned the right to play for the European Tour 2011.

At the Andalusia Open in Málaga in March 2011, Fritsch achieved his first top ten placement on the European Tour with a tied eighth place. At the end of the season, however, with the 156th place in the money list, it was not enough to receive the tour ticket.

In 2014, Fritsch achieved seven top 10 placements on the Challenge Tour, including three second places, 12th place and thus qualified again for the coming European Tour season.

In October 2015 he won the Pro-Am class of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with Michael Ballack .

In February 2017, the members of the PGA of Germany voted him Player of the Year 2016.
