Florian Uhlig (pianist)

Florian Uhlig (born October 28, 1974 in Düsseldorf ) is a German pianist .

Life

Uhlig gave his first piano recital in 1986. He first studied with Roland Pröll in Dortmund. He continued his studies with Peter Feuchtwanger and other teachers at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London .

The pianist made his orchestral debut at London's Barbican Arts Center in 1997. Subsequently, he gave concerts with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra , the Dresden Philharmonic , the Munich Symphony , the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra , the chamber orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber orchestra .

In addition to his solo activity, Florian Uhlig is active as a chamber musician and accompanist. He was Hermann Prey's last partner . He also works on programs with actors ( Christoph Bantzer , Cornelia Froboess and Gudrun Landgrebe ).

Uhlig has recorded the complete works for piano and orchestra by Dmitri Schostakowitsch on CD, as well as all piano works by Maurice Ravel . He has given master classes and lectures at the Royal College of Music in London , the Conservatoire de Neuchâtel and the universities of Johannesburg and Cape Town . Uhlig has been Artistic Director of the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival since 2008, in 2014 he was appointed to a professorship at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and followed the call to the Lübeck University of Music in 2019 .
