history

The company was founded in 1854 by the blacksmith Friedrich Carl August Arnz (1828–1898) as a small craft business. In the beginning the production consisted mainly of drill bits, later high-quality drill jacks and breast drill machines were also manufactured, which the company founder manufactured in Bergisches Land , a stronghold of German mechanical engineering in the 19th century.

The founder's two sons, Ernst (1855–1933) and August (1864–1931), also joined the company. In 1879 Friedrich Carl August Arnz enlarged the company and improved the factory facilities. Diligence and thrift made continuous development possible. Drilling winches were now also part of the production program. Every year, as a result of machine tool development, it brought improvement in manufacturing and new items.

In 1904 the tool program was expanded with the drill jack and drill program, corner drill jacks, hand drills and metal drills. In the meantime, hand-held table drills had also been developed. The Regulateur drilling machines were brought out, which had automatic feed . They were sold all over the world and were protected by a German Reich patent .

The rapid technical progress, especially in the construction of high-quality machine tools, enabled the further development of the articles in 1929. There were also new inventions. For example, drill jacks were made with a push-button ratchet, which was patented. Furthermore, hand drills , multi-speed and fully closed gear box and milling and boring machines with multiple speeds and fully closed gear box and adjustable automatic feed, which also for the company protected were. Also in 1929, the hand tool range was supplemented by the manufacture of electrically operated table and column drilling and grinding machines , and the company itself was converted to series production.

Advert 1939

At the 10th European machine tool exhibition in Hanover from 17.09 - 26.09.1967 the multi-purpose machine "Flottjet" was presented in Hall 9, Stand 9101, a complete "carpentry workshop" for craft, hobby and industry.

The machine could be used for all work that can occur in wood, light metal and plastic processing: dressing, planing, milling, drilling, turning, grinding, etc. In addition to the circular saw common in such machines, it also had a band saw unit.

All machine tools were driven by a motor with an output of 0.75 to 1.5 HP, depending on the type of current. The stops, guides and supports were largely adjustable, and the entire machine could be switched from one operation to another in just a few simple steps.

Advert 1929

The Flottjet system was in turn accompanied by an expansion of the production facilities .

The branch was located at Flottstr. 25 in Großseifen , Oberwesterwald , which was transferred to the company KRÄKU Maschinenbau und Dienstleistungs GmbH on January 27, 1999, including all rights and patents for the system, which still provides spare parts for the systems today.

In 2002, the Flott company signed an agency agreement with Meddings Machine Tools . Since then, this has been the official representative for FLOTT drilling and grinding machines in Great Britain and Ireland .

The financial crisis did not leave Arnz FLOTT GmbH unaffected. In 2007 the company was threatened with its first bankruptcy , which, however, could be averted.

In 2007, Jürgen Kullmann, who was supposed to reorganize the company, became the new managing director. In the course of the following restructuring , drilling machines and their individual parts were to be purchased from external manufacturers, and trademarks , patents and licenses were to be transferred to the company's purchaser.

In 2008 sales of eight million euros were achieved again. In the same year, the operating result rose by 600,000 euros .

On June 1, 2009, the company had to file for bankruptcy after the orders fell rapidly and sales had dropped by 50 percent. Production had already been stopped in March. 30 employees - that was half of the workforce - were fired.

In the same year, Arnz Flott GmbH Werkzeugmaschinen was re-established. On June 30, 2009, Managing Director Kullmann announced the continued existence of the company. Kullmann took over the company together with his partner Karsten Jennissen and the former shareholders Karl Peter Becker and Jan Peter Arnz with the use of equity of a total of 250,000 euros as well as subsidies and loans from the state and banks of 500,000 euros. In order to be able to act flexibly, production , assembly , spare parts supply and service were outsourced to the Voith plant manufacturer in Radebeul near Dresden .

On August 12th, 2010 Jan-Peter Arnz took over the management with the two authorized signatories Alfonso Carlon Clemente and Francisco Clemente.

In 2012, the company's sales were back at five million euros a year, and the trend is rising. The company in Remscheid employed 24 people.

In 2013 assembly and logistics were brought back to Remscheid. At the beginning of 2013, the company also secured the exclusive distribution rights for the lathes and milling machines from the British manufacturer XYZ machine tools in Germany , Austria and Switzerland .

Arnz Flott GmbH is now a fifth generation family business . The company continuously invests almost 5% of its annual turnover in its own research and development projects.
