Entrance to Aeroport International du Castellet

The International du Castellet Airport is an airfield near the village of Le Castellet northeast of the city Toulon in the department of Var (Region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur ) in France. The operator is Aéroport International du Castellet.

The airport is in the immediate vicinity of the Circuit Paul Ricard race track (built in 1970), which has been in operation since 2001 under the name "Paul Ricard High Tech Test Track" (abbreviation "Paul Ricard HTTT").

In the airport / racetrack complex, the color scheme for buildings (exception: hangars, workshops, etc.) has been standardized in accordance with French regulations in Mediterranean pastel colors.

history

The history of the location as an airfield goes back to 1962, when a private airfield with a runway of 1000 m in length was built.

Due to the lack of other technical equipment, the length of the runway, which was considerable for the beginning of the airfield, only allowed operation under visual flight conditions. The infrastructure in the area at that time (no large industrial settlements and little traffic) did not seem sufficient for further technical expansion.

It was not until the Circuit Paul Ricard racetrack was built in 1970 that the operating conditions also changed for the airfield. Due to the infrastructure requirements of the directly adjacent complexes “race track” (north in the area) and “airport” (south in the area), the runway, tower and terminal, as well as the hangars with additional technical equipment, were consequently expanded. The runway was extended from 1000 m in length to 1750 m. Gastronomy and accommodation facilities were added to the consistent expansion. The expansion of the airport was completed on December 31, 2001.

Aerodrome operations

After expansion, the airport has been in operation since January 1, 2002 by: Aéroport International du Castellet, 3100, Route des Hauts du Camp, 83300 LE CASTELLET - France

Flight operations at the airport are possible 24 hours a day, but subject to the following rules:

  • daily in winter from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • daily in summer from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

However, the 24-hour flight operations service is only available upon prior request and under special conditions.

The flight operation restriction to visual flight conditions is no longer applicable, radio-controlled is possible.

Airfield area

The airport is located on an area of 1,000 hectares for the airport and race track complex. The expansion goes back to an initiative of the French entrepreneur Paul Ricard . Since the expansion, the airfield has had a hard surface runway measuring 1,750 m × 30 m and a new tower . Today there is a terminal and five hangars available. Refueling options for AVGAS (100 LL) and JET A1 fuels are available, both via a filling station and a tanker.

Search and Rescue (SAR)

For reasons of air rescue and fire fighting Search and Rescue (SAR) in the fire-endangered region of southern France, rescue and emergency helicopters can be found at the airport again and again.

Helicopter use

The use of helicopters is not limited. On site is the SkyGroup Helicopters , which offers Sky Maintenance Services for Agusta and Eurocopter as well as various helicopter flights and flight training.
