The Kikai Airport ( Jap. 喜界空港Kikai Kuko ) also known as "Kikaigashima Iceland Airport" is an airport on the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan .

The runway was built on the 56.93 km² island of Kikaijima ( 喜 界 島 ) in 1931 by the Imperial Japanese Navy . During the Battle of Okinawa in the final phase of World War II, the airfield was repeatedly shot at by the United States Navy and the runway was badly damaged. In May 1968 the airport was expanded for commercial flight operations and in April 1971 approved by the Japanese aviation authority as a class 3 airport. Kikaijima is isolated from the other Amami Islands and is located about 25 km east of Amami Ōshima Island .

Kikai Airport has the international codes of IATA: KKX and ICAO: RJKI. The runway with the orientation 07/25 has a runway length of 1200 meters and is published in the Japanese AIP and in the AIS Japan.

The Japanese regional airline JAC has been flying several times a week from there to Amami Airport and Kagoshima Airport since December 1983 .
