The Matsu Nangan Airport ( Chinese 馬祖 南竿 機場 , Pinyin Mǎzǔ Nángān Jīchǎng ) is a small domestic airport in the Republic of China on the island of Nangan, which belongs to the Matsu Islands .
history
There was originally a small military airfield on the island of Nangan. After the military administration of the Matsu Islands had passed into civilian hands, concrete planning began on December 31, 1997 for the construction of a civilian airport on the island of Nangan. Construction work lasted from July 1998 to 2002 and flight operations officially began on January 23, 2003. The total cost of construction was NT $ 2.276 billion (approximately € 60-70 million). After opening, the airport was frequented by an average of 150,000 to 200,000 passengers per year and largely replaced the previous connections by ship to the island of Taiwan .
Location, dimensions
The airport area covers an area of 38 hectares and is located on the eastern edge of the island in the municipality of Fuxing. The airport has a runway of 1579 × 30 meters, three parking positions for aircraft the size of a De Havilland DHC-8 and a helicopter parking position. The airport terminal has an area of 2872 m².
Airlines and destinations
There are scheduled flights from the airport to Taipei-Songshan and Taichung . There are an average of 12 to 13 flight movements per day. The only airline that serves the airport with long-haul flights is Uni Air . Daily Air offers daily helicopter connections to the nearby islands of Juguang and Dongyin between October and March .
Accidents
So far, there have been no serious accidents at or near the airport (as of 2015).
