The following list of airports in the Republic of China are civil airports and military airfields of the Republic of China listed. Most of the airports are on the island of Taiwan , but there are a few smaller ones on the Penghu Islands, the Kinmen Island Archipelago and other small islands. There are military airfields on the island of Taiwan and on small islands in the South China Sea .

Due to the international isolation of the Republic of China from Taiwan , promoted by the People's Republic of China , it is not a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a sub-organization of the United Nations . Realistically, the Taiwanese government has applied for observer status at the ICAO under the name “Chinese Taipei” - but so far without success - that an application for full membership would fail due to resistance from the People's Republic of China. This policy has been criticized by international aviation experts. The exclusion of the Republic of China - one of the most important industrial nations in Asia - endangers international aviation security.

Civil aviation airports

In 2015 there were 480,980 aircraft movements in the Republic of China, of which 211,852 international flights (including those to Hong Kong and Macau ), 77,059 between the People's Republic of China and Taiwan ( “cross strait” ) and 192,069 flights within the Republic of China. 58.157 million passengers were transported (of which 36.163 million internationally, 9.798 million domestic, 11.821 million via Formosa Street).
