The Aéroport de Morlaix-Ploujean is a French regional airport. It lies in the region of Brittany in the department of Finistère in the field of Morlaix .
history
At the time of the German occupation of France during the Second World War , the Morlaix airfield was temporarily used by associations of the German Air Force . From mid-February 1941, there was initially a relay and then in March the complete III. Gruppe des Jagdgeschwader 77 (III./JG 77), which at the time was equipped with the Bf 109E . Another user from late December 1941 to early February 1942 was the I. Group of Jagdgeschwader 2 (I./JG 2) with Bf 109E / F.
After the liberation of the area by the Allies, Airfield A-51, its Allied code name, was used by transport aircraft of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) from the beginning of September 1944 until November .
The founding of the airline Brit Air in 1973 at Morlaix Airport, which was launched in 2016 under the Hop! rose, led to an increase in the importance of Morlaix, in particular as a location for aeronautical maintenance companies and also the training of air traffic controllers.
