The Aéroport de Saint Brieuc-Armor is a French airport . It lies in the region of Brittany in the department of Côtes-d'Armor on the territory of the municipalities Trémuson (Terminal), Plélo , Tréméloir and Pordic near the Côte d'Émeraude .
history
The current airport location did not emerge until the 1980s as a result of the settlement pressure of Saint Brieuc, previously the airport of the place was only three west of the city center in the area Plaineville on the territory of Ploufragan .
Aviation in Saint Brieuc began as early as 1909. At that time, Cesson Beach began to be used as an airfield, although this was possible when the tide was low. In the 1930s, consideration began to build a permanent airfield. Construction of the Saint Brieuc-Plaineville airfield began in early 1938 and opened in 1939.
During the Second World War, the airport was occupied by the German Air Force from 1940 to 1943 . From mid-January to early March 1941, the 8th and 9th squadrons of Jagdgeschwader 77 , both of which were equipped with the Bf 109E , were stationed here at airborne units . In the summer of 1942 the airfield became a base for the 4th Squadron of Reconnaissance Group 13 and the 1st Squadron of Reconnaissance Group 23 , which flew the Hs 126 and Fw 189A . The two squadrons were reclassified in October 1942 to the 1st and 2nd squadron of the close reconnaissance group 13 and both then received the Fw 190A . They moved to Dinard in August 1943 .
In the 1980s, the question of expanding the airport arose, for which the Plaineville location was no longer suitable due to the residential areas that were created. The search for a new location began, which should be as close as possible to the new four-lane bypass that was built in the 1970s as part of the N 12. The choice fell on the current location far outside in the west of Saint Brieuc.
The new airport was finally inaugurated on November 30, 1985.
