The Tapa Airport ( Estonian Tapa lennuväli ) is located 3 km from the Estonian town of Tapa (German taps ) away.
During the Cold War , Tapa was a Soviet military airfield. It was the home base of the 656th interceptor unit of the Soviet Air Force . MiG-23 aircraft were stationed on it.
Today the facility is operated by the Nurmsi flight club ( Nurmsi lennuklubi ). The airport is owned by the Estonian Ministry of Defense and serves as a reserve airfield for the Estonian Air Force . The airfield is also used as a training area for the Estonian army .
