The Tartu Airport ( Estonian : Tartu Lennujaam ) is a civilian airport in Estonia . It is located 8 km south of the second largest Estonian city Tartu near the village of Ülenurme .

history

Tartu Airport was opened as a medical airport in 1946. In 1981 the runway was expanded and a new terminal opened. Since 2005 the airport has been operated by the operating company of Tallinn Airport AS Tallinna Lennujaam .

In 2004 Tartu Airport recorded 1268 passengers.

The Estonian Aviation Academy (Eesti Lennuakadeemia) accounts for 60 to 90 percent of the traffic at Tartu Airport .

Raadi Airport

From 1919 to 1993 there was another airfield in Tartu, Raadi Airport . It was used by the Soviet Air Force until 1992 .

Airlines and destinations

The airport was served by the Latvian Air Baltic from Riga up to twice a day until August 2011 . The flights were suspended from August 1, 2011.

Estonian Air initially flew to Stockholm several times a week .

Flybe Nordic has been operating flights from Tartu to Helsinki-Vantaa since 2011 .
