Bubenstein ruins

The ruin Bubenstein , also called Neu-Falkenstein , is the ruin of a spur castle at 560  m above sea level. NN on a rock spur on the north side of the Höllental about 500 meters west of Falkenstein Castle above the Falkensteig district of the municipality of Buchenbach in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was probably built by Walter von Falkenstein in the 13th century, and in 1266 he is mentioned as the owner. In 1328 Werner von Staufen was named as the owner of three quarters of the "tower", which he sold to Johann Schnewlin . In 1407, Kuno von Falkenstein finally sold the last quarter to Hanmann Schnewlin. In the 19th century, part of the castle rock was blown up for the Höllentalbahn railway, and in the 1960s towering parts of the wall were removed because of dilapidation and for traffic safety.

The tower of the tower castle had a base area of ​​10 by 10 meters, the neck ditch a depth of 5 meters and a width of 8 meters. Remnants of the wall and the neck moat are still preserved from the former castle.
