The Cheboksary Airport ( IATA : CSY , ICAO : UWKS , Russian Аэропорт Чебоксары ) located 9 km southeast of the city of Cheboksary in Russia . Medium-sized aircraft and helicopters can take off and land on it. People and freight are transported. The airport was the base of the airline Chuvashia Airlines until its dissolution .

Flight connections

There are daily connections from Cheboksary Airport to Moscow's Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports . The Russian low-cost airline Pobeda has been serving the airport since October 2015 . In the 2017 summer flight schedule there are also connections to Saint Petersburg , Ufa , Sochi , Simferopol and Anapa . The airline Nordwind offers flights to Antalya .

Expansion plans

On May 27, 2016, it was announced that the airport will in future be operated by OOO Meschdunarodny Aeroport Tscheboksary , a joint venture between the Moscow aviation fueling company Aerofuels and OOO Aerotechnologii . Almost all employees of the formerly state operating company were taken over. Over the next few years, over 500 million rubles will be invested in expanding the airport. Among other things, a new building for the airport fire department is to be built.

Incidents

Due to an icy runway, a Boeing 737-800 of the Pobeda airline , which came from Moscow, came off the runway on November 11, 2016 . After the landing process was completed, the machine slipped off the runway when turning around. All 184 passengers remained unharmed and could be rescued from the aircraft. The airport remained closed for several hours after the incident because the black ice made it impossible to tow the aircraft to a parking position.
