The Chelyabinsk airport ( IATA code : CEK , ICAO code : USCC , Russian Аэропорт Челябинск ), sometimes to the neighboring sometimes Balandino ( Russian Баландино called), is the only airport in the city of Chelyabinsk in the southern Urals in the Russian Federation .
history
In 1930 an aircraft took off for the first time from today's airport grounds to the neighboring city of Magnitogorsk . In 1938, an airfield was built on this site, and in 1962 the runway is today. After privatization in 1994, international flight operations were started for the first time. In addition to internal Russian connections, direct flights to China , United Arab Emirates , Armenia , Azerbaijan , Tajikistan , Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic run from here .
The airport is connected to the city center by three bus routes. Balandino was home to the airline Aviaprad until February 2008 , which was then dissolved.
The Russian airport operator Novaport owned 84.9% of the airport through its Cypriot subsidiary TS Trans Siberia Co. Limited . In November 2015 , the company consolidated its shares in the airport and has been the sole shareholder of the operating company Chelyabinskoye Aviapredprijatije (Челябинское авиапредприятие).
Incidents
- On May 26, 2008, an An-12 cargo plane operated by the Moskovia airline crashed 30 km north of Chelyabinsk. The unloaded aircraft was on its way to Perm when smoke appeared in the cabin a few minutes after take-off. The pilot requested permission for an emergency landing. On the way back to the airport, the plane crashed 11 km from the runway. The cause of the crash was probably a defect in the on-board electronics. All nine people on board were killed.
