The international airport Varadero Juan Gualberto Gómez ( Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Gualberto Gómez ) in the Cuban province of Matanzas is mainly used for the tourist air traffic. It is the second most important international airport in Cuba after Havana Airport. Charter companies from Canada and Europe carry the largest proportion of passengers. In the summer of 2012 it was used by seven Canadian and eight European airlines. From the German-speaking region, it will be served by Condor from Vienna , Frankfurt am Main and Cologne / Bonn on the 14/15 winter flight schedule. Eurowings has also been flying from Cologne / Bonn to Varadero since November 2015 . From 2018 Edelweiss Air will connect Varadero with Zurich . The airport is equipped to handle a maximum of 2200 passengers per hour.
