The Antonio Maceo Airport (official name: Aeropuerto Internacional Antonio Maceo ), IATA code : SCU , is an international airport in the south of Santiago de Cuba , Cuba .

After three years of construction, the airport was inaugurated in 1954 and extensively renovated in 1991.

Santiago is mainly approached by propeller planes, but jet planes also land here . The majority of commercial flights to Santiago are domestic flights. But there are also 20 flights a week to international destinations, operated by both Cuban and international airlines.

The airport occasionally serves as a ceremonial reception point for foreign state guests. The visit of Pope Benedict XVI on March 26, 2012 attracted international attention . at the beginning of his three-day stay in Cuba.

By Hurricane Sandy October 25, 2012, the airport facilities were damaged over 90 percent. A 56-ton airliner of the type Jak-42 was moved 20 meters from its parking space on the tarmac by the storm. After a six-day closure, flight operations were initially resumed using a mobile control tower. On October 30, 2012, the first of several foreign transport aircraft landed with aid deliveries for the disaster area.
