The EuroAirport station is a planned airport station for Basel-Mulhouse Airport , which is to be Template: future / in 5 yearscompleted by 2028 .

background

Previous travel connection

At the moment, a connection by road is only possible with the toll free road without border control from Switzerland or via the French road network. A connection through local transport is currently only available with the French Distribus and the Swiss bus route 50 of the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe . A bus from Lörrach to EuroAirport is also planned from December 2020. Rail travelers must get off at Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée station and walk 900 meters.

The project

As early as 2010 and 2011 there were studies for an alternative public transport connection to the airport.

The project should have the following advantages:

  • short travel times to Basel or Mulhouse .
  • more ecological and environmentally friendly local transport.
  • Shifting local transport from road to rail .

The planning committee, made up of trinational representatives and chaired by the Prefect of the Alsace Region, decided on December 5, 2011 for a rail link.

Promoter

The project sponsors are SNCF Réseau , EuroAirport , the Grand Est region and the Federal Office of Transport .

Construction phase

(Status: September 2018)
According to the plans, the station is to be built in front of the airport entrance. It is to be connected to the Strasbourg – Basel railway line by a six-kilometer new line . After long negotiations between Switzerland and France , the plans were presented to the public.

Construction is expected to begin eight years before the planned opening.

Rail transport

Long-distance transport

According to the information, no long-distance or high-speed trains should enter the station.

Local transport

Basel S-Bahn

There are also plans to connect the Basel S-Bahn to EuroAirport , as new connections are to be created thanks to the expansion of the Basel rail node and the realization of the “heart of Basel”.
