The Völtendorf airfield is an Austrian airfield on the city limits between St. Pölten and Ober-Grafendorf . The airfield is located on the area of the former Völtendorf garrison training area directly on Pielachtal Straße B39 and is privately owned by Dietrich Mateschitz .

use

The airfield is approved for gliders , motor gliders , powered aircraft and helicopters up to two tons.

The clubs Union Sportfliegerclub, Eisenbahner-Sportverein and Erlauftaler Fliegerclub, which previously started here, founded the St.Pölten Fliegerclub in October 2008 .

history

The airfield opened in March 1960.

In July 2007, Dietrich Mateschitz acquired the airfield as a private person for 455,000 euros. This is 200,000 euros more than the starting price. The decisive factor for the Red Bull boss was that the sports airport as such should be retained and continued in its current form.

A year later, work began on converting the runway. The grass runway was laid out with plastic grid plates to prevent molehills as much as possible. Up to 400,000 euros were estimated for this.
