plane

The aircraft affected was a 1970 built Fokker F-27-600 Friendship. The aircraft with the factory number 10443 was finally assembled at the Fokker plant in Schiphol and completed its maiden flight on August 28, 1970 with the test license plate PH-EXA . The machine was delivered to Maersk Air on November 12, 1970, which approved it with the aircraft registration OY-APE . In March 1974 the machine was leased to Aeroperú , where it was in operation as OB-R1072 , before it was returned to Maersk Air's fleet in July 1975 with its original registration number. On March 1977 the machine was leased to Air Rouergue , where it was in operation with the aircraft registration F-BYAI . From July 1977 the plane was leased by Danish Aero Lease to the Bahraini Gulf Air , which approved it with the Omani registration A4O-FA . In June 1981 the machine was passed on to Oman Aviation . In March 1982 the machine returned from leasing to Danish Aero Lease and was registered with the French aircraft registration F-WDFT . In the same month, the aircraft was leased to Air Jet with the registration number F-GDFT , which immediately leased the aircraft to Air Inter . In September 1984 Alkair Flight Operations AS took over the machine with its original registration number OY-APE . From September 1, 1987, the machine was in operation at Star Air. The twin-engine short - haul aircraft was equipped with two Rolls-Royce Dart 532-7R turboprop engines . By the time of the accident, the machine had completed 21,120 flight hours in 23,047 take-offs and landings.

Inmates and flight plan

There was a two-person crew on board the machine, consisting of a flight captain and a first officer. With the machine an international freight flight from was that day Roskilde Airport to Airport Nuremberg flown. Scheduled stopovers were planned at Billund Airport and Hannover-Langenhagen Airport . The accident occurred at the end of the second flight segment.

the accident

The approach of the aircraft loaded with cargo to Hannover-Langenhagen Airport was carried out in the dark with the aid of the radio compass . The crew received clearance to land on runway 09R. When the lifting aids for landing were deployed at 10:25 p.m. local time , the angle of attack increased suddenly. It stalled and the machine fell one kilometer west of the airport. Both crew members were killed.

root cause

The investigation into the accident revealed that when the crew tried to take off , the load had slipped backwards as a result of the load change. This shifted the machine's center of gravity and lost control. The buoyancy aids were also set to 11 instead of 26 degrees as required.
