Motorsport, which is widespread in Sweden under the name Folkrace, is a very inexpensive and popular entry-level series in Northern Europe , whose active players later often switch to the rallycross scene. The low-level racing is originally from Finland , where he called Jokamiehenluokka (dt. Every man class) is known. In Norway , the relevant competitions are held under the term Bilcross , the translation of which, Autocross , indicates more clearly that the races take place almost exclusively on loose ground (gravel, earth or sand). In Denmark the sport is called Folkeræs .

Folkrace runs are held on racetracks up to 2,400 meters long. The circuits are designed so that the maximum achievable top speed is 80 km / h. The competitions are open to different vehicle categories and age groups of participants. The minimum age for Folkrace drivers in the junior class is 15 years, which means that many participants already have a racing license but do not yet have a driver's license . From the year in which you reach the age of 18 you drive in the senior class .

The competitions are divided into heats and finals. Usually six drivers start at the same time. The race winner receives seven points, the second receives five points, the third four points, the two following riders three and two points, the last one one point. After all preliminary heats have been completed, the number of points collected decides on the entry into the final races, mostly A, B and C finals. The winner of the A-final is the overall winner of the event.

Around 600 Folkrace races are organized all over Sweden each year, with three-digit starter numbers being very common. The two most popular and best attended competitions are the so-called Semesterracet from Vimmerby and the Folk Race Festival from Motala , while many representatives of the crème de la crème of Scandinavian motorsport get dented out of pure fun at the popular " NGK Masters" in Karlstad Folkrace cars are at the start.

In order to keep the costs of the racing cars within a manageable range, every participant (including the winner) is obliged to sell his vehicle for 8,000 kroner (approx. 750 ), in Finland € 1,500, if there is a bidder. If there are several interested parties, the lot will decide who will be awarded. However, if the owner does not sell his car, his racing license can be revoked.
