The Forecastle Summit (English for Backgipfel ) is a 2040 m high mountain in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Convoy Range it rises as the highest point of the Staten Island Heights in its northern section. Its rounded summit offers impressive views of the Fry and Benson glaciers .
Based on the naming of other objects in the Convoy Range, which are named after seafaring terms, a team from the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program , who worked in the area between 1989 and 1990, named the mountain after a certain type of foredeck on ships.
