Developed by Studio 33 for PSX and by SCE Studio Liverpool for PS2, the game was released in Europe on April 20, 2001. It was also the last Formula 1 game Sony released on the North American market for four years. The series was only continued there with Formula 1 in 2005 .

Formula 1 2005

Formula 1 2005 was released on June 29, 2005. For the first time, the player can determine what should be done in the pits. In a career mode, the player can also work his way up as a pilot of a small team.

Formula One 06

On July 26, 2006, Formula One 06 appeared as the successor to Formula One 05 on the PlayStation 2 . In contrast to the previous game, this includes a realistic damage model and the current season data. An improvement of the online mode was originally planned. Now players who own this game for the PSP should be able to compete against players who own this game for the PS2. Up to 12 players should be able to compete against each other in one race. Shortly before the release date, however, the online mode was canceled. This was also the reason that the publication date was postponed from the previously announced July 19, 2006 to July 26, 2006. The PSP version appeared at the same time. For the release of the PlayStation 3, Formel Eins 06 appeared again as the F1 Championship Edition for the PlayStation 3 and, in addition to the online mode, offers improved and high-resolution graphics .

F1 Championship Edition

In F1 Championship Edition season 2006 data are still included. The menu design also shows no major changes compared to F1 06 . However, significant improvements have been made in terms of graphics and the damage model. The game has high definition graphics and is recommended for HDTV enabled TVs. The multiplayer mode can also be found again, here up to eleven drivers can compete against each other. The speedometer is based on the gear display that is common in TV broadcasts. The game was released on December 28, 2006 in Japan, on February 27, 2007 in the USA and on March 23, 2007 in Europe and Australia.
