The Research Information System for Mobility and Transport ( FIS for short ) is an internet-based, transport science platform that is funded and published by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS). The content is accessible to every user free of charge. The texts and data are usually provided by specialist authors from research institutions. They may continue to be used provided the respective author and the full source (including the name of the sponsor) are given.

Origin and development

The BMVBS started FIS in 2000 for its departmental responsibilities in the areas of mobility , transport, urban planning, spatial development and housing. In the first few years, topics such as housing construction , flood protection or construction in the East were added. Since 2005, however, the focus has essentially been on the topic of mobility and traffic. In 2010 the page was revised. Since the beginning of 2011, the content has been accessible without prior registration. However, comments, downloads and newsletter subscriptions still require registration.

tasks and goals

FIS is supposed to prepare knowledge from related disciplines in a user-friendly way and to network theory and practice of traffic science. Publication content and project results that were previously scattered are digitally edited, merged and updated. According to the publisher, the content does not need to comply with the BMVBS's position. The content offers experts from transport policy and planning an information basis, but is also intended to reach the interested public.

Content structure

The focus is on traffic science. In addition, ecological and social framework conditions of transport are dealt with. The content is divided into 5 main topics:

  1. Transport policy, economy and infrastructure
  2. Passenger traffic, mobility and space
  3. Freight transport and logistics
  4. Energy, environment and climate
  5. Traffic management and security

The topics are graphically represented and further differentiated using knowledge maps .

Further sorting categories are synthesis report , review , publication , project , legal regulation , statistics , glossary and corporation . They are identified by colored symbols.
