Research data infrastructure

As research data infrastructure within the will research infrastructure and scientific information infrastructure means the combination of infrastructure facilities that research data of research (scientists) for secondary analyzes using infrastructure facilities for free, or make low cost. The data provided are mostly geared towards scientific issues. The term is particularly used in the social sciences. The aim is to electronically archive data from empirical surveys. In the case of personal data in particular, data protection conditions must be observed when providing this data and may be implemented through anonymization measures.

Forms of access

In the case of personal data in particular, there is often a need for data anonymization . According to the different levels of anonymity (complete, factual, formal, non-anonymized) there are different forms of access or data versions: public use file , scientific use file , remote data processing , remote access , guest researcher workstation .

Research data infrastructure in Germany

In the social sciences, the improvement of the research data infrastructure is being promoted in particular by the Council for Social and Economic Data (RatSWD). At the suggestion of the RatSWD, the following research data and data service centers are funded by the BMBF:
